2024 Quilt of Valor Challenge

Quilts Of Valor CHALLENGE [due 3/5/25]

This challenge is to showcase any "disappearing" block in a quilt. There are many disappearing blocks, four patch, nine patch, hourglass, pinwheel, it goes on and on. YouTube has many videos on the topic.

Your quilt must include a minimum of SIX of the disappearing blocks of your choice. You may choose to add other blocks but the disappearing blocks should be the focus of the Quilt. The quilt must be at a minimum of 55x65 inches, made with prewashed quilt shop quality fabric, 3 layers, quilted and bound.

Please bring your quilt to the March 5th, 2025 meeting to be voted on. The winner will receive a $25 gift certificate from the guild to the quilt shop of their choice.

2022 Quilt of Valor Challenge

Winning QOV quilt by Alberta Dalke

SQC QOV Challenge

For the 2022 challenge, Kay Blikken was able to get 8 panels for only $5 each, which were for sale at our monthly in person meetings for April and May, or she would mail you one once she received your payment.

Finished quilt must measure at least 55x65 inches using prewashed quilt shop quality fabric.  Panel dimensions are 23x45 inches.

You must use at least 90% of the panel.  The panel does not need to remain in one piece.

Quilt needs to be completed with three layers, quilting, and binding.

No label is required if it is going to be given to Norene for a veteran. Otherwise, a label is required.

Send a picture of your finished quilt with dimensions to SuncoastQuiltingCircle@yahoo.com by 1/2/2023.

You may also want to bring it to the January 2023 meeting. Voting will be at the meeting. Winner will receive a $25 gift certificate for the quilt shop of choice.

Many thanks to Kay Blikken for chairing this challenge!

Members' Choice

At the February 3, 2021 meeting, we will show the photos in a slide show twice, once to show the entries, and again so you can make your final choice. Then via anonymous Zoom poll you will vote. The winner will be announced and each person can explain about their quilt/block when it comes up in the slide show. Center blocks will be combined with additional blocks and/or borders to make a QOV top which will be completed at sit and sews by our members. Several of our members have agreed to machine quilt them. Extra fabric will make completion much easier but isn't required.

When finished the quilts will be given to Norene Dagly as our in-house QOV representative(!) for future presentations.

You may want to use your center block for a completed QOV quilt presentation to a qualified recipient you choose.

Please call or email me with any questions.

Take care,

Kay Blikken
